Tim & Jimmie

Tim Rossi, the guitarist for The Jimmie Van Zant Band, started playing guitar at 12 years old and was performing in bands around the New England area by the age of 14. After high school he moved to Northern New Jersey with his rock band Redline, who recorded an album and played the club scene for a few years. Tim then moved to L.A. where he learned from such guitar greats as Norman Brown, Paul Gilbert, and Bruce Bouillet.

After a few years of recording and performing live gigs in L.A. with various bands, Tim became endorsed by Ibanez Guitars (George Benson and Joe Satriani) and Dimarzio Pick-Ups. Shortly after, Tim formed Broke Americans who signed to Industrial Strength Records (Dead Kennedy’s, Swarm) and recorded their self titled CD ‘Broke Americans’. A single from the CD, “Finally Over” appeared in the Universal Pictures Motion Picture, ‘Bride of Chucky’. Broke Americans was featured and performed on The Fox Television network‘s national music show, ‘The Music Channel’, and the national radio show ‘C-Notes’, hosted by the E Entertainment channels music correspondent David Adleson. They received glowing reviews from many U.S., Canadian, Japanese and European music magazines. Popular nationally syndicated radio D.J. Bubba the Love Sponge adopted Broke Americans second single “Proud to Be…” as his theme song, as well as their music being used on cable TV (Foxsports, ESPN) and a few Independent movies.

As Tim and the band began touring up and down the West Coast in support of their CD, Tim became endorsed by EVERLY Strings and Picks, owned by Don and Phil Everly (The Everly Brothers). All this time, Tim maintained a group of private students he accumulated over the years in L.A., forming a reputation as a guitar teacher with equal effectiveness with beginners as with the advanced students. Considering L.A. is his base of operations, it’s no surprise that Tim has found himself gigging with or in jams with Slash and Duff McKagan (Guns n’ Roses, Velvet Revolver), Grammy nominated Jazz and R&B singer Blu Cantrell, Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne), C.C. Deville (Poison), legendary comedian Sam Kinison, Bruce Gary (The Knack, Jack Bruce), Matt Bissonette (Ringo Starr, Joe Satriani), Mickey Dee (Motorhead, Dokken), Don Was (Was not Was), among others.

Then, THE LESSON HOUSE, a popular Performing Arts School that teaches their Music and Acting programs in public and private schools all over Southern California and whose teacher roster includes some of the busiest studio and touring musicians in the business, such as Matt Bissonette (David Lee Roth, Don Henley, Boz Skaggs, Peter Frampton), Greg Bissonette (Ringo Starr, Carlos Santana, James Taylor) and Kenny Arnoff (Elton John, Avril Lavinge, Rod Stewart, Willie Nelson, Alanis Morrisette ) hired Tim as a Guitar teacher and shortly after promoted him to Teacher Lead in charge of many schools. Tim teaches their Rock Camp Summer Programs as well. And he also wrote The Lesson House’s current Guitar curriculum and according to their website (www.thelessonhouse.com), has become their most popular guitar teacher.

Meanwhile, when Broke Americans took an indefinite sabbatical, Tim scored a gig with TV personality George Gray (The Weakest Link, What’s With That House?) and his popular Blues Rock band, Stinky’s Bar. Tim was also chosen as the guitar player for Evan Seinfeld’s (Biohazard, VH1’s Supergroup) new band Spyder Jonez.

Recently Tim has switched to endorsing ESP Guitars (Metallica, The Rolling Stones), D’Addario guitar strings and Planet Waves music accessories. Tim continues to teach guitar and play music for a living. For more about Tim check out www.myspace.com/freakrossi

Sgt Narly

Mike (Sgt Nalry) Latessa is a professional Bass Player for The Jimmie Van Zant Band, and hails from St. Paul, Minnesota now residing in Fort Myers, Florida. He has played in numerous cover and original touring acts, as well as recording for over 25+ years.

Born and raised on the ‘Hot Rockin’ East Side of St. Paul, Minnesota in December 1961, Mike was influenced by watching his cousin Greg play bass which coaxed him into playing bass guitar at age 10. It was then he felt the need to purchase his first bass & amp. Some of his influences range from Gene Simmons, Steve Harris, Cliff Williams, Geezer Butler & John Paul Jones.

Mike’s jump start came to him in 1984 when he met up with some guys at Fort Ord, U.S. Army base in California and started a band called Eclipse. Later moving back to Minnesota in 1985, Mike continued his music career while working at ‘Rock Guitar Center’ giving lessons and working sales. There, he had the opportunity of meeting some great musicians and found himself a part in a band called Renner in 1985. Renner played shows with some of the areas best bands such as Paradox & Hurricane Alice, as well as opening for the national recording artist, Cub Coda of (‘Brownsville Station’ of the original ‘Smoking in the Boys Room’). During this time Sarge got the position of a road crew for Renner and was nick named ‘Sgt Narly’.

I got my nick name just after coming back from California and always using ‘Gnarly’ as the word of the day. The name just stuck and now Sgt Narly is here to stay!

Sarge continued on to form one of the cities best metal bands ‘Black Eden’ in 1987. They recorded an EP titled ‘C’mon Take A Bite’ recorded at Logic Studios in Minneapolis, MN. Featured in all the major clubs in the Twin Cities, Black Eden went on to play for a few years and also opened for national acts like Bonfire & Kings X. Black Eden also did shows with some of the areas best metal bands such as The Regime, Slave Raider, & Weapons for Liberty to name a few.

Later in 1992 Sarge landed a gig with an original band called Zayne Grey, who opened for such bands as Quiet Riot and many more. In 1997, he recorded a 10 song CD with the original band Mad Klownz. After pushing as far as they could with the project and new album, they decided to part ways and try new avenues. Sarge then decided to move to Florida in 2001, and had the opportunity to play with a few cover bands such as, Damaged Mailboxes, the Palm Rats, Voodoo Clowns, Gotham City, Headcount, and Blind Gypsy. For more about Sarge check out www.myspace.com/sgtnarly

I believe with hard work and dedication I will succeed in any thing I put my mind to.

Sarge

Lyrics

Well it's three o'clock in the mornin'
It's time to close the store
There's chairs up on the table
And glasses on the floor
The crowd was rockin' all night long
Callin' out for more
At quittin' time, the lights come on
And they shoved 'em out the door

Party in the parking lot
Let's use what little time we got
Come on baby, let's have some fun

Well baby I don't know your name
You sure we're lookin' fine
We would be a rockin' too,
If we just had the time
Ya know it just occured to me
There may be one last chance
Out there in the parkin' lot
There's time for one last dance

Party in the parkin' lot
Let's use what little time we got
Come on baby, let's have some fun

Well the air outside is nice and clean
There ain't no bouncers lookin' mean
And all the drinks that you want are for free

Finally I see her standin' there
Out among the cars
Looks like she is talkin' to
A guy holdin' a guitar
Slipped around so silently
Just to see his face
I'll be damned, she's leavin' with
The guy who plays the bass!

Party in the parkin' lot
Let's use what little time we got
Come on baby, let's have some fun
Well the air outside is nice and clean
There ain't no bouncers lookin' mean
And all the drinks that you want are for free

Lyrics

We've owned this farm
Since my grandad was a boy
We've plowed these fields since 1910
That big old house sittin' up upon the hill
Was built by Pa and all his kin

There ain't no stealin'
No killin' in these woods
My kids can go outside alone to play
I love this land
And I love my country too
Ain't gonna let 'em sell it all away

We were born inside that big ol' house
Built in 1917
That big ol' oak with the tire swingin' free

My Grandpa's buried 'neath that tree
There ain't no stealin'
No killin' in these woods
My kids can go outside alone to play
I love this land
And I love my country too
Ain't gonna let 'em sell it all away

Ain't gonna take this farm away
I'm gonna live here till I die
America is where this land 'll stay
And over these hills
The Stars and Stripe will fly!

Well come last spring
A man came from the bank
Wantin' me to sell the farm to Japanese
Said the land was worth less than they would pay
So I just left them jives
Jawin' to the breeze

There ain't no stealin'
No killin' in these woods
My kids can go outside alone to play
I love this land
And I love my country too
Ain't gonna let 'em sell it all away

Ain't gonna take this farm away
I'm gonna live here till I die
America is where this land 'll stay
And over those hills
My REBEL flag will fly

Lyrics

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it will help you some sunny day

Oh, take your time, don't live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
Go find a woman and you'll find love
And don't forget, son, there is someone up above

And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied

And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can

Boy, don't you worry, you'll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied

And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can

Lyrics

Well it's Friday night
And we're ready to cruise
Down on the boulevard
Well people come from all around
Say they're gonna be a star
You see all types, every walk of life
Down on sunset strip
See that guy
Makeup on his eyes
An earing through his lip
Well I don't understand
Is he a woman or a man?

I like the fancy cars
Not the Rockstar bars
Up and down the strip
They'll charge you cash just to look inside
Then you don't get shit
Well pay to play
Blows me away
Man that's really sick
Four bucks a beer?
Why the hell am I here
Man, that just ain't hip

Well I don't understand
I'm a simple Southern Man

Give me some Southern Comfort
Give me Dixieland
Gimme some old rock and roll
Played by a Southern Band
Give me some Southern Comfort
Give me Dixieland
Gimme some old rock and roll
Played by a Southern Band

(Let em fly)

( Repeat Chorus )

I'm not tryin to put LA down
It's OK by me
To each his own
So carry on
But don't you bother me
It takes all types
To make the world go 'round
I hope you'll understand
A man like me
Don't need their kind
Down in the Southern Land
Well I don't understand
I'm a simple Southern Man

( Repeat Chorus Twice )

Lyrics

Didn't seem that long ago when we fell in love
You and I laying in the sun starin' at the moon above
We held each other so very tight
There was magic in the air
I recall the look in your eyes
As the wind blew through your hair

Where can I find the words to say
Just what you mean to me
Where can I find the precious time
To give you what you need
I call you every night
Sometimes when you're not there
I wonder if I'll see the light
Angel will you care

You're my lady
You're my shinnin' star
You're the air that I breath
You're my baby
And everything's alright
You're my Angel in the night

Well someone like you, so much love
Sweet Angel don't you fly
Set me free to fly with the doves
Angel don't say goodbye
We'll hold each other so very tight
Magic in the air
I wonder if the morning light
Angel will you care

Lyrics

There comes a time in everyone's life
When you lose someone you love
They're here today
But gone tomorrow
To a better place above
And when I think
Of times we shared
Oh those childhood memories
But now you're gone
And the songs live on
And now it's time to carry on

Ronnie can you hear me ( Yes you know )
You know your fans still cry out loud
You're a Southern Man with Southern pride
I know your songs will never die

So many times when I think about you
Oh how I wish you were here today
Just to hear you sing your songs
Standin' up there center stage

Ronnie can you hear me ( Yes you know )
You know your fans still cry out loud
You're a Southern Man with Southern pride
I know your songs will never die

( may you rest in peace)

Ronnie you're a hero ( Yes you know )
You were a legend in your own time
A Southern Star in the Southern Sky
I know your songs will never die

I remember the day
When we got the news
That the plane had gone down
Lives were lost
But the Simple Man
Now his songs will carry on

Ronnie can you hear me ( Yes you know )
You know your fans still cry out loud
You're a Southern Man with Southern pride
I know your songs will never die

Ronnie you're a hero ( Yes you know )
You were a legend in your own time
A Southern Star in the Southern Sky
I know your songs will never die

Lyrics

You come over here
Keep me out 'til three
You make my eyes red
Girl, you make my nose bleed

Workin' is hard enough
Without your 'help'
Got to put you away girl
Up on the shelf

Havin' a good time
Kickin' around
The future looks bright
Got my feet on the ground
The last thing I need is
To fall in love
Life has been good
You know it fits like a glove

I'm doin' just fine
Without your bad habits
Oh, it's hard enough
Without your bad habits

I smoke and I drink
Livin' life as it comes
Don't need no girlfriends
Girl I'm on the run
Spend all my nights
Doin' as I please
Don't need no hound dog
Tryin' to put me up a tree

(Repeat Chorus )

Come home at night
Leave my clothes on the floor
I kick off my shoes
Leave 'em at the front door
Might wash the dishes
Or maybe I won't
Don't have no girl there
Tryin' to tell me I'm wrong

I'm doin' just fine
Without your bad habits
There's no ring in my nose
Without your 'bad habits'

Lyrics

We've been around this town, for so long
We played all those honky tonks
Played 'em all night long
Well it's time to move on, no time to waste
You know it's hard, hard out there
Fightin' to find my place

So come on people, we'll win with you
Well if you come with us we'll see it through

So get up (get up)
Have a good time
Don't think about your troubles leave 'em all behind
Get up ( get up)
Have a good time
Don't think about your troubles leave 'em all behind

Headin' out on that highway
Soon as we can
We can't stay 'round this town
We got to travel across the land
Well it's you we've come to see
Do all we can
Without you, you out there
We wouldn't be a rock and roll band

( Repeat Chorus )
